Description More Information

Great fresh or dried, this indispensable kitchen herb is a very hardy perennial shrub that grows up to 15” tall. The whole plant (leaves, stems and flowering tops) of Common Thyme is used to flavor a wide variety of dishes.

Aids sore throats and coughs. Can also be used as an aromatic, ornamental landscape herb. Drought tolerant. Average: 85 days

Detailed planting instructions:

Thyme thrives in full sun and light well-drained soil. Space plants 9 inches apart. Be patient, thyme takes a while to germinate.

Where winters are very cold, mulch the plants after the ground freezes with a light mulch such as pine needles. Trim the plants a bit in the spring and summer to maintain a neat growth habit and prevent the development of too much woody growth.

HARVESTING

You can harvest leaves and sprigs all summer. To dry thyme for storage, harvest sprigs in early fall, tie them together, and hang them upside down in a shady, warm, well-ventilated area to dry. Store leaves in a tightly lidded container. You can also remove leaves from the stem, dry them on a tray, or freeze them.

SAVING SEEDS

Division is the best way to propagate thyme plants. In mid spring, dig up thyme plants and clear dirt away from roots. Divide your thyme plant into three or four sections; making sure each section has roots and foliage. Replant each section 10" to 12" apart.

I order from them every year! Everyone knows their speed in delivery, but I actually grow my seed every year and germination is almost 100%!  If you want to see the seeds as plants you can youtube Raquels garden and farm. Almost 2 acres of plants all from Patriot supply. Were donating it all this year. Thank you patriot supply for not raising your prices and keeping your customers in mind.
