Organic Melon: Heart of Gold Planting Instructions:
Hearts of Gold Melons grow best in full sun and will take about 80 days to grow from planting to harvest. Direct sow the seeds 1 to 2 weeks after the last frost, planting ½” deep and 1’ apart, in rows 5’ apart. Thin to 2 to 3 plants per hill. If starting indoors to transplant, start the seeds ¼” deep in peat pots (2” square or bigger) 2 to 4 weeks before moving outside. Once the soil has warmed, mulch the plants to help keep the moisture consistent and to discourage weeds.

Organic Melon: Heart of Gold Harvesting Instructions:
When they are ready to harvest, Hearts of Gold melons should have a yellowish-orange color and be just a little soft on the stem end. When ripe, the melons should pull off the vine with ease. Once the fruit starts to ripen, watch carefully and harvest daily. One way to tell if the fruit is ripe is to knock gently on the melons. A ripe melon will make a hollow sound. Refrigerate melons immediately after harvesting.

Did You Know This About Hearts of Gold Melon?
Hearts of Gold Melons originated in 1890, but this variety is considered one of the first true “modern” melons.

Love the packaging and these are being saved to be planted after the chaos that is soon to come has passed and we have to grow our own food!

So far so good June 18, 2015
Reviewer: Dave D from Houston
I planted 4 seeds and 3 germinated. They grew at an amazing rate and practically took over my vegetable patch. I had to cut them back severely. I had literally dozens of yellow flowers but only about 10% developed fruit, possibly pollination problem but I am no expert. I currently have about a dozen healthy softball size fruits and about a dozen more just starting after I pruned back. I am a beginner but am very happy with the results so far. Way exceeded my expectations given my novice status.
