Organic Carrots: Lunar White Planting Instructions:
Carrots do best in full sun and will take about 60 to 75 days between planting and harvest. Sow seeds after the danger of frost has passed. Use well-worked soil for best results. Carrots thrive in soil that is loose and light. Use compost if the soil is too heavy. Plant seeds in rows 12" apart and cover with ½" of light soil. Firm gently and water evenly. Once the seedlings are 3" tall, thin to 2 to 4" apart, depending on the desired carrot size. Keep the area well-weeded. Water consistently during dry seasons.
Organic Carrots: Lunar White Harvesting Instructions:
Before harvesting, soak the soil to make pulling the carrots easier. When you pull the carrots, twist the tops off. Cut the greens off the top to about ¼ to ½" above the shoulder. To store carrots for the winter, twist off the tops but do not wash them. Layer the carrots in damp sand or sawdust. In warmer climates, you may also leave the carrots in the garden over winter, topped with a thick layer of mulch.
