Organic Beans: Fava Windsor Planting Instructions:
Direct sow the seeds outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Fava beans are a cold-hardy variety and very heat intolerant so do not wait to plant your seeds. Plant 1 to 2” deep, 2 to 4“ apart in full sun. Fava Beans need moist, fertile soil and cool temperatures to thrive. In case of a hot spring, use overhead watering to cool the plants, especially at the flowering stage. In usual conditions, drip irrigation works best.

You may harvest Fava Beans at several stages of their development. If you plan to eat them whole, harvest the beans when they are young, about 2 to 3” long. When using fresh beans, wait for the pod shell to turn green with the bean a light green color. For dry beans, wait until the shell turns hard and brown, then store on the shelf for cooking later.
