Plant in fertile, warm soil after danger of frost has passed. Sow seeds in groups of 4- to 6-inch raised hills. Once the plants are 1 to 2 inches tall, thin to the 2 or 3 strongest seedlings in each group.
Keep plants well-watered and weeded. Watermelons need 1 to 2 inches of rain per week. Do not move the vines.
