Basil does best in full sun, planted 1/4 inch deep and 12 to 18" apart. Grow time is around 85 days. Plant basil seeds in fertile soil and make sure the seeds get a steady supply of moisture. Basil needs warm soil temperatures. In cool areas, wait to mulch until the soil temperature is in the mid-60s. In hotter regions, or once the summer heat has picked up, add mulch sooner. Basil is vulnerable to even mild frost, so you should harvest the remainder of your crop if the temperatures will dip into the 30s.

The best seeds we've ever planted
