Charges dismissed against Trinidad water protestors as city hall closes

A Henderson County grand jury declined to indict Jennifer Combs, the Texas woman arrested over a Facebook post about water concerns in Trinidad. Combs had been charged with felony false alarm or report after posting that residents had reported hospitalizations tied to bacteria in the city’s water. A municipal judge also dismissed charges against citizen journalist Winston Noles, who was arrested while protesting Combs’ arrest outside the Trinidad Police Department. The dismissed charges come as questions continue around Trinidad’s water system, with residents sharing images of discolored water and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality continuing its investigation.

Why This Matters:
When residents are afraid to question whether their water is safe, trust in the system breaks down even faster. This story is not just about one Facebook post. It is about aging water infrastructure, public concern, official response, and how quickly families can be left wondering who to trust when something as basic as tap water comes into question. For households, it is another reminder that safe drinking water can become uncertain fast, and having backup water filtration on hand gives families an added layer of protection when the system they rely on suddenly cannot be trusted.
