The outage comes as the country continues to deal with a deepening energy crisis tied to fuel shortages and an aging power system. In response, the government has announced emergency measures including reduced school hours, postponed sporting and cultural events, and cuts to transportation services. Some government-run hospitals have also reduced services, while trash has piled up in neighborhoods due to fuel shortages and a lack of working dump trucks.
