An invasive ant known as the Asian needle ant is spreading in the U.S. and drawing concern because its sting can trigger severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. The species has been reported in more than 20 states and is active in warmer months, often hiding in mulch, leaf litter, firewood, and shaded areas around homes.
