Flood threat returns to millions across Ohio Valley, Appalachians as severe storms sweep east

Parts of the Ohio Valley, Central Appalachians, and Mid-Atlantic are facing another round of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash flooding to start the week. FOX Weather says a Level 2 flash flood threat covers parts of southeastern Ohio, eastern Kentucky, much of West Virginia, and southwest Virginia, where storms could produce rainfall rates of 1–2 inches per hour. The flood concern is higher because some areas are still saturated from storms last week and over the weekend. Farther south, East Tennessee and western and central North Carolina face the greatest threat for severe storms with damaging wind gusts that could exceed 60 mph.

Why This Matters:
Back-to-back storms can make flooding and storm damage worse before communities have time to recover. Saturated ground, heavy rain, and strong winds can quickly lead to flooded roads, downed trees, power outages, and dangerous travel conditions. For households, this is a reminder that severe weather does not always come as one isolated event. Emergency supplies, safe water, backup power, and a go-bag should be ready before the next round hits.
