Indus Foods is recalling approximately 1,626 pounds of ready-to-eat pickled goat and chicken products sold under the Gangothri Foods label because they were produced without the benefit of USDA inspection. The recall includes 8-ounce glass jars of Gangothri Goat Pickle, Gangothri Gongura Goat Pickle, Gangothri Chicken Pickle, and Gangothri Gongura Chicken Pickle. The products were sold nationwide to restaurants, retail locations, distributors, and directly to consumers online. FSIS says the jars do not have a USDA mark of inspection, and some may still be sitting in pantries or on restaurant and distributor shelves because the products have a two-year shelf life.
Why This Matters:
This recall is not about one contaminated batch. It is about meat and poultry products reaching customers without the inspection process that is supposed to verify safety before they are sold. Ready-to-eat foods are especially concerning because people may open the jar and eat the product without any additional cooking step. For households, it is a reminder that shelf life alone does not make food dependable. A serious food reserve should be built with products that are properly inspected, clearly labeled, and trusted before they ever make it to the pantry.
