Thousands of CenterPoint Energy customers experience power outages in west Houston, Katy area

Thousands of residents in the west Houston and Katy area lost power Wednesday morning after a CenterPoint Energy equipment issue caused a major outage. At one point, CenterPoint’s outage map showed more than 30,000 customers without power, with the hardest-hit ZIP codes all in and around Katy. CenterPoint said the outage began around 9:45 a.m. and power was restored to all impacted customers by 10:40 a.m. The company said the problem was tied to a transmission issue.

The grid has failed every month in 2026, and millions of Americans are waking up to the fact that the grid is falling apart. Outages do not have to last for days to disrupt daily life. Even a short outage can affect air conditioning, refrigeration, work, communications, traffic, medical devices, and the routines families depend on. Solar backup power isn’t a luxury anymore.
