  • Moisture: Maintain consistent moisture, especially during early growth
  • Care: Mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds

Harvesting Instructions

Proper timing is key for both flavor and storage life:

  • Time to Harvest: Approximately 115 days from planting
  • Maturity Indicator: Harvest when tops begin to fall over naturally
  • Curing Period: Leave bulbs in the ground for 10–14 days after tops fall to mature fully
  • Harvest Method: Lift carefully from soil and allow to dry
  • Storage Prep: Cure in a dry, well-ventilated area before long-term storage

Saving Seeds

Saving seeds from onions requires a two-year growing cycle, as they are a biennial crop.

Select strong, healthy bulbs and replant them the following season to produce flower stalks and seed heads. Allow seeds to fully mature and dry on the plant before harvesting.

Once collected, dry seeds thoroughly and store in a cool, dry place. To maintain seed quality, isolate from other onion varieties to prevent cross-pollination.
