CDC confirms 12 sick in ongoing E coli outbreak linked to frozen blueberries

A CDC food safety alert has confirmed an ongoing E. coli outbreak linked to frozen organic blueberries. At least 12 people have been sickened in Florida and Georgia, with multiple hospitalizations and no deaths reported. The recalled blueberries were sold under the GreenWise brand at Publix stores in several southeastern states. Officials are urging consumers to check their freezers, throw away or return the recalled product, and wash any surfaces that may have touched it.

Why This Matters:
Frozen foods can sit in home freezers long after a recall is announced, which means the risk does not always disappear when the product leaves store shelves. Food safety issues like this show how quickly everyday grocery items can become a concern for families. Having dependable backup food in place helps reduce reliance on store-bought items when recalls, outbreaks, or contamination concerns create uncertainty.
